29:18-19
18 Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart
turneth away this day from the LORD our God, to go and serve the gods of these
nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood;
19 And it come to pass, when he heareth
the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have
peace, though I walk in the imagination of mine heart, to add drunkenness to thirst:
Proverb 5:3-5
3 For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother
than oil:
4 But her end is bitter as wormwood,
sharp as a twoedged sword.
5 Her feet go down to death; her
steps take hold on hell.
Jeremiah 9:13-16
13 And the LORD saith, Because they have forsaken my law which I set before them,
and have not obeyed my voice, neither walked therein;
14 But have walked after the imagination
of their own heart, and after Baalim, which their fathers taught them:
15 Therefore thus saith the LORD
of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will feed them, even this people, with
wormwood, and give them water of gall to drink.
16 I will scatter them also among
the heathen, whom neither they nor their fathers have known: and I will send a
sword after them, till I have consumed them.
Jeremiah 23:14-16
14 I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an horrible thing: they commit
adultery, and walk in lies: they strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that
none doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as Sodom, and
the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah.
15 Therefore thus saith the LORD
of hosts concerning the prophets; Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and
make them drink the water of gall: for from the prophets of Jerusalem is profaneness
gone forth into all the land.
16 Thus saith the LORD of hosts,
Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they make you
vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the
LORD.
Lamentations 3:14-16
14 I was a derision to all my people; and their song all the day.
15 He hath filled me with bitterness,
he hath made me drunken with wormwood.
16 He hath also broken my teeth with
gravel stones, he hath covered me with ashes.
Lamentations 3:17-20
17 And thou hast removed my soul far off from peace: I forgat prosperity.
18 And I said, My strength and my
hope is perished from the LORD:
19 Remembering mine affliction and
my misery, the wormwood and the gall.
20 My soul hath them still in remembrance,
and is humbled in me.
Amos 5:6-8
6 Seek the LORD, and ye shall live; lest he break out like fire in the house of
Joseph, and devour it, and there be none to quench it in Bethel.
7 Ye who turn judgment to wormwood,
and leave off righteousness in the earth,
8 Seek him that maketh the seven
stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh
the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them
out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name: |
