What was wrong with Cain's sacrifice?

Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.

Genesis 4:2-5
4:2   And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
4:3   And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.
4:4   And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
4:5   But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.

As stated in Exodus 23:19 and in many other parts of the Bible (KJV) it is specified that only firstfruits are to be given to the LORD.

Exodus 23:19
23:19   The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring into the house of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.

Another point: A sacrifice was to be just that, a sacrifice! The best sacrifice is the firstlings or first fruits. Not just whatever fruits were there.
